Charles Lock Eastlake inspired the Eastlake style, which was popular between 1870 - 1890. Though contained within the Victorian period, Eastlake furniture intentionally departed from the heavier Victorian styles that were prominent. This “simple, sturdy furniture” presaged modernism with its geometric motifs and cleaner lines.
